Making career with CSIR-NET-JRF

Most aspirants have developed their interest in life science from their school days. As it would have created curiosity and interest in the child and making them desire to major in life science. Students with a strong background in life science can select a range of careers, including biotechnology, environmental science, microbiology, ecology, zoology, botany, and lot more. There are many upcoming research industries and firms where students are selected based on their performance in CSIR-NET-JRF exam.

CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) is conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. It is the toughest Exam and the golden path for the candidates who qualify thisexam. CSIR began in the year 1983 by premier national R&D organization and introduced a junior research fellowship for recognizing aspirants with the scientific method in the form of NET (National Eligibility Test). Overall there are 19 scholarship schemes supporting eligible young talents.

The main benefits of qualifying the CSIR-NET-JRF exam are that the top rankers are awarded a JRF and are entitled to a stipend of INR 25,000 per month which increases along with the program.

About CSIR-NET-JRF exam.
The main purpose of conducting this exam is to select aspirants for Junior Research Fellowship or Assistant Lectureship in various colleges and universities.

This exam is held twice a year, in 27 centers all over India and the eligibility criteria required for this exam is the candidate should have M.Sc. or equivalent degree with 55% of marks This test comprises of a single paper with objective questions and the complete test is conducted for 5 subjects- Life science, physical science, chemical science, mathematical sciences, earth, atmospheric, ocean and planetary science. The exam paperis divided into3 sections (A, B, C)

  1. Part A includes general questions along with basic mathematical queries. In this section, out of 20 questions, 15 have to be answered. The topics include logical reasoning, analytical and numerical ability, puzzles, etc.
  2. Part B consists of 50 questions out of which 35 have to be answered. This section includes general subject related multiple choice questions on Life Sciences. The topics include photosynthesis, reproduction, human anatomy, pathogens, etc.
  3. Part C consists of 80 questions out of which 25 have to be answered. Questions in this section include fundamental and scientific concepts.
Here are some typical career options with CSIR-NET-JRF.

      The first thought which comes to our mind when we think of career options after CSIR-NET-JRF may be an Assistant Professor, Lectureship, etc.

      It is the golden path for the qualified candidates as they gain the opportunity to go for Junior Research Fellowship / Lectureship into the topmost labs of the country.

      The qualified applicants can take admission in Ph.D. Programs.

      CSIR also offer travel allowances to any deserved research working in Research Institute in India and also for participating in conferences, seminar, etc.

      The qualified aspirants may also apply for different positions such as research staff, junior scientist, Ph.D. student, as per their interest.

      The candidates are also eligible to apply in any of the 38 CSIR Research Labs.

      Other career options include: aspirants can also join the labs of DRDO or as an Assistant Professor at any college. If interested in government sector they are also eligible to join - BARC, IGCAR, and ISRO.
